Delivering a world-class sport event in advance
of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022

Being awarded the 24th Men’s World Handball Championship was an important validation of Qatar’s increasing status and presented the country with another proof point to demonstrate its ability to deliver world-class sports events in advance of the FIFA World Cup 2022 and after 2006 Asian Games, 2010 IAAF World Indoor Championships and 2019 World Athletics Championship, side by side with other of Qatar's successful annual tennis, golf, cycling, motorsport and athletics global events.

​Handball is the second most-watched sport in the Arab World and has a committed and a passionate fan base in Northern
Europe.

The creative approach to the brand language was to break down the nature of the handball game into three distinct characteristics that are evident for any spectator, a game that is fast, fierce and dynamic which helped to create three distinct art patterns that are also inspired by cultural visual references such as Sadu patterns and national flag of Qatar, translating these references into an adaptive visual language supported by illustrated handball player poses.

The visual language was developed to be adapted with ease and ‘forgiven’ when not applied with accuracy and according to the guidelines, and still consistent across all touch-points of the championship - from venues, fan zones, uniforms, corporate and communication collateral, volunteers look and feel to country flags, livery and merchandise.
